Minerva, NY Approves Cell Tower Proposal

There’s nothing more frustrating than having your calls dropped in the middle of a conversation. This is why the Planning Board of Minerva, New York approved an application submitted by Verizon to construct a cell tower. This tower will be located next to Sport’s Iron Duke Saloon. The townspeople are extremely excited for this addition because they have very little cell coverage as it is.

Due to the lack of cell phone service, residents have installed boosters on their DSL connection in order to get a cell signal. A lot of tourists frequent the Minerva area to hike, ski, or ride their snowmobiles. The lack of cell service is a big safety concern for residents who spend time outdoors. If an accident occurs and they can’t get a cell phone signal then they won’t be able to get help right away.

Verizon’s proposed tower will be 75-feet tall and disguised to look like a tree. On top of the tower there will be an 8-foot-tall cone that will include antennas and transparent branches. The construction of this tower is still a ways away, but residents of Minerva are looking forward to the boost in cell phone coverage.
