New Jersey Township Looks To Mount Police Antenna On Cell Tower

The Township of Washington, New Jersey is discussing the possibility of incorporating signals for the town’s emergency services onto Verizon’s 120-foot that is going to be constructed outside the municipal complex.

Kimberly Redmond of North Jersey reported that, “Originally, the monopole was to be built on the south side of the municipal complex, where the police department and an existing tower for emergency services are located. However, officials decided in July 2012 to move the proposed location to the north side of the property in between the municipal complex and the department of municipal facilities because they felt it was more feasible, Mayor Janet Sobkowicz said.”

Now that the location of the tower has been moved, there will be an additional cost to run electrical conduits to the new location so the town is trying to get an exact price to remount the police antenna on the new tower. There is a tower next to police headquarters but the equipment is 25 years old and doesn’t have the best wireless capabilities.

“The tower, which will be built by Verizon Wireless, will actually stand 125-feet due to a lightning rod that will be affixed to the top, and is structurally designed to accommodate at least four additional wireless carriers, as well as emergency services,” Redmond reported. After the building permits are acquired from the township, the officials believe construction should take two to three months; hopefully, the project will be completed by the end of the year.
