Oklahoma Man Arrested For Stealing Copper From Cell Tower

A man was arrested in Southwest Oklahoma City for trying to steal copper from a local cell tower. The man’s name has not yet been released but investigators say that the man drove up to the cell tower on his bike and used bolt cutter to try and cut the wire. This tower belongs to AT&T who was very thankful that the suspect was apprehended before any damage was done to the cell tower.

People tend to steal the copper wiring from cell towers in order to sell the copper and make a profit. The market price of copper is high and with the state of the economy, people believe this is a good option to make some cash. The Department of Energy estimated that copper theft is responsible for $1 billion worth of damage every single year.
